Following last weekend’s debut of the track as part of the NASCAR Pro Series eSports event, the historic North Wilkesboro Speedway for iRacing is now available for purchase for all members.
Located in North Wilkesboro, North Carolina, the speedway is a 0.625 mile short track that was immensely popular with NASCAR fans and drivers alike. Racing on the speedway stopped in 1996 as NASCAR abandoned the track in favor of bigger, more modern venues that offer more amenities and more profitable markets.
The story of how the abandoned track was resurrected in virtual form is a rather fascinating one, featuring the help of NASCAR legend Dale Earnhardt Jr. and lots of hands-on work from the iRacing crew as seen in their making off documentary.
The recently-announced 1987 NASCAR Winston Cup Chevrolet & Ford cars that will go perfectly with this historic track are still a few weeks from being released though as iRacing projects a release in the first week of June for both cars.
