1987 NASCAR Winston Cup Cars Coming To iRacing

Yesterday’s successful debut of the North Wilkesboro Speedway in iRacing was followed up by yet another news that will make all fans of historic NASCAR very happy: Two cars from the 1987 NASCAR Winston Cup Series will be coming to the simulation.

iRacing has managed to get their hands on a 1987 Chevrolet Monte Carlo SS to create a laser-scanned virtual version of the Richard Childress Racing car that carried Dale Earnhardt Junior to the 1987 title.

One of Chevrolet’s main competitors will be present as well as the Ford Thunderbird raced by Bill Elitott was laser-scanned as well, allowing iRacing to start a dedicated NASCAR Legends series that will debut next season.

The two cars do not make up the full field of the 1987 season though as back then, the grid also featured cars from Oldsmobile, Buick & Pontiac, even though strictly speaking all of these are just Chevrolet sub-brands and not independent manufacturers.
