Upcoming RACE07 Expansions Leaked?

Two weeks ago, Simbin released STCC The Game 2, the first of four commercial expansion packs for the RACE07 platform.

The released files may reveal more than Simbin intended as the guys over at Racedepartment have found some interesting graphics that may reveal what the upcoming three expansion packs will be about.

Judging by the graphics, the future packs will include the 2010 World Touring Car Championship season, touring cars from 1987, sports cars from Matech, BMW & Pagani as well as something called “Injection” cars.

While the idea behind the latter is hard to guess, the other graphics are more self-explanatory. A 2010 WTCC expansion makes sense as, following the STCC 2 release, all required car models are already there. The 2010 season did utilise three tracks that have not been included in the RACE07 franchise before so we may be racing at Marakesh, Portimao & Zolder soon.

The 1987 touring car pack might be a bit more tricky. 1987 was the first (and until 2005 sole) season of the World Touring Car Championship, including efforts of BMW, Alfa, Volvo, Mercedes, Holden & Ford. RACE 07 already included the 1987 season cars from BMW & Alfa, Simbin wasn’t able to include the other makes due to licensing issues as none of the other manufacturers are involved in the modern-day WTCC.

It remains to be seen whether this problem could be solved, a full 1987 WTCC field would surely be something that many race fans would look forward too. The 1987 WTCC season utilised exotic tracks such as Bathurst, Calder Park & Wellington, since the graphic specifically mentions cars, 1987-spec tracks would probably be too much to ask for though…

Either way, keep in mind that these are just leaked images and Simbin’s plans may differ from the conclusions drawn above. Stay tuned for more on the three upcoming RACE07 expansions!
