Yep…it’s that time of the year again. As with every new year, I want to take the chance to not just wish all of you a happy and successful 2013 but also take a short moment to look at what’s behind and ahead of us.
This time exactly one year ago, I talked about how rFactor 2, GTR3, Asetto Corsa & Reiza Studios??? Ayrton Senna game are due to come out in 2012. Like with all predictions, I was a tad off as of these sims, only rFactor 2 has (sort of) hit the shelves yet.
Other than that, 2012 was an excellent year for sim racing as Assetto Corsa is shaping up into something great, Project CARS is making progress with every build and Reiza has treated their customers to an extensive free content update for their Game Stock Car title. There have also been great news on the modding front as plenty of great community-made add ons such as Power & Glory have been released in the past 12 months.
Unfortunately there were a few unpleasant stories as well, including the rather shameful circumstances surrounding the release of Auotmaniax’ Porsche Online title and the (possibly related) cancellation of Enduracers’ Porsche Cup Series mod for rFactor. But that can’t spoil what generally was a very positive year for sim racing.
2013 will most likely turn out to be even better with several large titles due to be released, including Assetto Corsa & Project CARS. Meanwhile, iRacing is busy expanding with several high-profile licenses, RaceRoom Racing Experience will go public and plenty of other great stuff will come our way. Hopefully rFactor 2 modding will be kicking into higher gear as well with the title due to go gold in the next 12 months.
I hope you`ll all be back for all the exciting news 2013 will have to offer. I’d like to thank everyone for visiting, sharing, commenting and making VirtualR the place it has become as it goes into its seventh year (no kidding, it really has been this long!).
I also want to voice my gratitude towards VirtualR’s advertisers that allow me to run this site free of in-content advertising in a neutral and unbiased way. Go check out their sites and buy their products – They’re awesome!
