Image Space Incorporated Tim Wheatley has revealed on Twitter that the Mercedes Benz 300 SLR is coming to rFactor 2.
Based on the legendary Mercedes Benz W196 silver arrow Formula One car, the 300SLR was the companies weapon of choice for the 1955 sports car racing season. The car won the 1955 Mille Miglia in the hands of Stirling Moss but suffered a terrible fate at the 1955 Le Mans 24 Hours by being involved in the horrific crash that killed 82 spectators and driver Pierre Levegh. Mercedes-Benz retired from motorsports following the tragic race, ending the 300??SLR???s competition history.
The car will be fully licensed, even though ISI will have to call it??Mercedes-Benz Sportscar or MB Historic Sportscar as Mercedes wants to prevent confusion with their current road going models.
The car would go perfect with the Targa Florio for rFactor 2 that was shown off a few days ago and that is still looking for assistance from the community.
Update: Tim Wheatley has confirmed that work on the car won’t start before next year.
