As you may have noticed during the past week, VirtualR is operational again, run by myself, Montoya, the site’s original founder and, for most of the past 13 years, sole editor.
I encountered a serious health problem back in the summer of 2017 that forced me to put my life to a complete hold for a long time and rendering me unable continue being involved in sim racing.
A friend of mine tried to take over the responsibilities of keeping the site up to date to do me a favor but unfortunately was unable to do it on a regular basis for several reasons, nevertheless I’d like to thank Gregor for putting the work in that he did, especially some of the improvements to the technical foundation of the site I can now continue to build on.
So, what can you expect from the new/old VirtualR?
Pretty much the same that many of you have been coming to VirtualR for for the past 13 years, the usual mix of sim racing industry & hardware news. There will be a bit more coverage of eSports crossing over with real motorsports as well, a topic that has taken off in an credible way ever since I last ran the site (remember the days when a professional racing driver seen doing sim racing was a news topic in itself?)
I also want to focus more on showcasing quality community-mods for various games again as there’s still a lot of incredible talent in the community and the demise of popular modding spots like NoGrip Racing seems to have made following the the modding community a harder task than ever before.
Everything works like it did before, the old comment system is still in place so feel free to leave some feedback or just say Hi. You can also contact me here or report news here.
Thank You
I’d like to thank all of you who have faithfully been checking back for the past two years, when I got back to checking out the site after a long time I was touched to see that it was still receiving a solid stream of visitors every day, even though there have been no updates for such a long time…. I feel like I owe it to all of your loyalty to make this relaunch of a successful one.
It’s only been a week back at the helm but I’ve thoroughly enjoyed seeing so many familiar names pop up…. running this site has been a major part of my life for 11 of the last 13 years of my life and I’m looking forward to keep building on that.
And finally, given the times we’re in, I hope all of your are staying safe and especially healthy, some thing I’ve come to not take for granted in recent years.
Montoya
