Need for Speed Shift – Ian Bell Interview

Back in May, Drivingitalia.net asked sim racers to post their questions to Slightly Mad Studios’ Ian Bell about their upcoming Need for Speed Shift title. Now, Mr. Bell has answered plenty of questions, revealing some interesting details.

He confirms that most videos that could be seen of Shift so far have been taken using the arcade made and made promising comments about the simulation mode:

“We have a full realism hardcore mode called Pro that you can choose to race in from the start that will feel natural and comfortable as well as raising the bar for handling compared to anything out there (or due out soon) for all of our hardcore race sim fans. This can be combined with one of three AI difficulty levels, and on the Hard setting, the AI will fight extremely hard and give no quarter – even the most talented racers out there will find a great challenge here.”

Also interesting is that, even though Shift was not intended to be a modding-friendly game, SMS expects modders to tackle Shift once it’s out:

“Although we’re not focusing on this as a mod platform, I have no doubt that the smart guys out there will be playing around with it sooner rather than later. “

He also confirmed that Shift will allow a maximum of 16 cars to race on the track at the same time, races can be fairly long as 20-lap races on the N??rburgring Nordschleife are mentioned.

While those are pretty good news all in all, rather disappointing info is that Shift won’t simulate tire wear and there will be no pit stops either. Furthermore, Shift won’t be including rain races. According to Mr. Bell, this is no big issue since only a tiny percentage of racers is even interested in racing in the rain.

Make sure to read the full interview in english language here as it contains a lot of interesting info on the upcoming Need for Speed Shift title.
