Image Space Incorporated has released a new preview video of the upcoming Indianapolis Motor Speedway for rFactor 2.

Along with the video that features gameplay footage without sound, ISI has also released a new dev blog as well:

It???s always been special for IndyCar fans, and fans of the Indy 500; the whole month of May, building up to an open-wheel event like nothing else in the sport. Watching the race on TV is one thing, but visiting this facility, the Hall of Fame Museum and perhaps most importantly, meeting a lot of the wonderful Indiana natives, it changes you.

I was lucky enough to survey this race track for the rFactor 2 racing simulator, at various times over the last year. I???ve walked up and down every grandstand, I???ve walked and driven the race track, I???ve even noticed people on tour buses taking photos of me when driving past, hoping I might be somebody important, and in the words of a former Indianapolis Motor Speedway Communications Manager, I???ve ???felt the ghosts.??? There???s a feeling you get when you drive into the Speedway, it feels spiritual.

Development of Indianapolis Motor Speedway has been one of the most intensive periods of track building the company has undertaken, mainly due to bad timing! We began building the existing roadcourse before finding out the Speedway planned to make changes, this complicated our schedule quite a bit and we held development to work on other items, before returning to it once we knew what IMS were doing.

Initially, we planned to release the Speedway in 2012 configuration, including the (now) old roadcourse and Indy 500 oval, by Memorial Weekend, 2014. However, this plan changed when we were given access to the Speedway the very next day after the new track surface had been laid. We were able to survey the track layout (minus kerbing, which did not exist at that time), and the ISI Track Team decided that they wanted to try to get the new roadcourse into development.

By late April, the team had many of the trackside objects built, along with the general layout and configuration of the new roadcourse. However, due to a very bad winter, the Speedway were still finishing up construction. The ISI Track Team returned to the old roadcourse, hoping that they could develop that to a point where it could be included when the oval track was released. Though when the Speedway allowed us to re-visit for a final survey, including of the newly laid kerbing, the team switched focus back to the new roadcourse, implementing the new survey information.

As of today, at time of posting, here is the work-in-progress video status of the new roadcourse in-development.

As you can see, there are a number of objects missing, some placeholder items, etc. We???ve also painted the kerbing blue and white, which is what IMS told us they were going to do. Any changes IMS make at this point to the track will not make it into our first release. This is, once we finish it up a bit, what you???re going to get.
