Hockenheim To Join iRacing

iRacing has confirmed a new high-profile addition to their roster of tracks as the Hockenheimring is poised to join the simulation.

Hockenheim became the home of the German Formula One Grand Prix after the legendary Nürburgring Nordschleife was deemed unsafe for Formula One in the late 70s. The track however has seen its share of major changes as well as the iconic Monza-like layout with its chicane-interrupted long straights through the woods was replaced by a more conventional modern layout in 2002.

This modern layout will be coming to iRacing, production of the track, like many things this year, has been affected by the Covid-19 pandemic though as iRacing was not able to laser-scan the track themselves, instead their version will be based on third-party scan data and high resolution photos.

A release date for the track has not been revealed.
