GTR3 – Simbin Uses Tesla To Record Sounds

Simbin has recently used a Tesla Roadster to make some unique sound recordings.

Simbin has posted a very interesting article on their website, explaining how they used the electric-powered Tesla Roadsters to record sound effects that are usually numbed out by engine noise.

Since the 248hp roadster doesn’t produce any engine noise, other sound effects like wind noise, tires & bumps are much more audible without distortion. Last winter, Simon Lundell took Simbin’s sound designer Anthoy for a ride in the unique sports car, allowing him to capture these sounds for their upcoming GTR3 title.

The guys drove the car at various speeds, looking for bumps to record suspension sounds and doing multiple burn outs to capture tire squeal and other sound effects that make for a more realistic driving experience.

Some of the sounds recorded will make it into GTR3, the car itself is less likely to be included as there’s no indication that GTR3 will include road-going sports cars.
