Gran Turismo Coming To PC?

In an age where console and system exclusives becoming more and more rare due to publishers trying to maximize their revenue across multiple platforms, it looks like the racing world’s last and most iconic console exclusive might finally leave its single-platform confinement: Gran Turismo.

Ever since the first GT title released in 1997, the Gran Turismo Series has been a major systems seller for the Playstation platform, a status that was reinforced this summer when the Gran Turismo 7 trailer reveal was the second game to be shown in the big Playstation 5 Games showcase, right after the Grand Theft Auto announcement.

Despite Gran Turismo’s undoubted importance to the Playstation brand, GTPlanet has uncovered a very interesting tidbit in Sony’s latest financial report that specifically mentions bringing Playstation IP to the PC:

???SIE aims to achieve robust revenue growth by accelerating the virtuous cycle that has been established for the PlayStation Platform. This entails increasing active users and play time, enhancing network services and reinforcing content IP so that consumers select PlayStation as their platform of choice.

???Targeted outcomes include growth in active users, stronger retention and a shorter cash conversion cycle, from which expanded cash flow can be expected. We will explore expanding our 1st party titles to the PC platform, in order to promote further growth in our profitability.???

With not many Playstation-exclusive 1st Party titles remaining, it’s clear that Gran Turismo is very likely to be part of this potential shift, a move that wouldn’t be unprecedented as GT’s biggest rival, Forza Motorsport, has been available on the PC since Forza Motorsport 7, making Gran Turismo the last big console racing behemoth that is not available outside its core platform.
