Gran Turismo 7 vs. Gran Turismo Sport – What Has Changed?

Gran Turismo 7 was one of the standout at Thursday’s Playstation 5 Future of Gaming event as the showcase of upcoming PS5 titles included a quite extensive trailer, showing Gran Turismo 7 running on the new platform and serving as the official announcement of the new title.

The trailer did show off several new features such as ray-tracing powered lighting and other graphics improvements, revealing several cars that had not been part of the Gran Turismo franchise before, as well as the return of the fan-favorite Trial Mountain fantasy track.

While the possibility of dynamic time of day (and weather?) was only sort of hinted at in a short sequence, the trailer did confirm that GT will be a fully-fledged Gran Turismo title again with features such as car customizations, license tests and used car markets that were absent from Gran Turismo Sport making a return to the franchise.

With no release window mentioned and games in the showcase ranging from end of year launch titles to games becoming available sometime in 2021 or even later, it’s impossible to tell how far into the development cycle GT7 is, some details such as the virtually unchanged Gran Turismo Sport HUD and placeholder sounds seem to indicate that Gran Turismo 7 is still quite a bit off and won’t be part of the Playstation 5’s launch lineup this fall.

Still, it’s interesting to look at how much this early demo already differs from Gran Turismo Sport on the Playstation 4 which is exactly what MotoGamesTV have done, showing side by side footage in the same car and on a somewhat similar track (Trial Mountain is not available in GT Sport), showing off the difference in lighting, shadows, reflections and other details:
