No significant news today so I decided to attend the Formula One test day held at Mainfeild Park. Two weeks before the annual Australian Grand Prix, several F1 teams opted to send one of their drivers down to get some last minute testing kilometers on the Grand Prix variant of the track.
10 drivers hit the track during the day and the quickest of them was BMW’s Robert Kubica. The Polish BMW driver was not just the one with the most covered laps, he was also topping the timing-sheets for most of the session. “We started with a good base setup and were able to tweak it a little for every stint. The car was well balanced and I felt comfortable and confident, especially through the banked corners. The track is great, too bad we don’t run a GP here,” a jokingly Kubica commented.
Mclaren’s Fernando Alonso was less happy, spending the day in the lower parts of the timing screen. “I can’t get the car to handle right through the final corner. The track is way too bumpy and not up to European standards,” a grim Alonso commented before disappearing into the privacy of his motor home. Ferrari was the only team to bring both cars to Manfeild, both Kimi Raikkonen and Felipe Massa clocked in equal times and stayed close to Kubica without ever matching the speed of the BMW driver.
Below are my best shots of a busy day at Manfeild Park, I hope you like them ????
