With DLC becoming a more and more important way for gaming developers and publishers to both keep buyers interested in a title and create additional revenue, it was kind of a surprise that Codemasters’F1 2010 title did not get any post-release content treatment last year.
This might change with the upcoming F1 2011 though as the studio is contemplating to adding extra content to the title after its release. As the game ships with all cars, drivers and tracks of the 2011 season and the F1 license comes with very strict limitations, adding more current racing content is difficult.
Instead, Codemasters are thinking about including some historic racing machinery as designer Stephen Hood recently revealed in an interview with Gamerzines:
“I want to be able to race the ’92 Monaco race with Senna versus Mansell as a particular scenario – it would be awesome! I think it’s more likely for the first instance to get individual cars and build scenarios around them, rather than building the entire field in a season,” Hood commented.
“I don’t think it would be a standalone game because the further away you get, the less likely you are to have a market for that. However, I do think it’s a cool thing to include and if it was built on top of the game as DLC, I honestly think Codemasters could make money out of it and gamers would appreciate it.”
Since Formula One has a rich history of interesting cars and drivers, there should be no shortage of content to include in either F1 2011 or next year’s edition of the franchise.
